European Union: Our position on normalization with the regime is consistent and has not changed

ARK News… A spokesman for the European Union's foreign policy chief, Peter Stano, told Syria TV that our position on normalization with Bashar al-Assad's regime is consistent and has not changed, referring to the meeting that brought together Turkish officials with officials of the Syrian regime under Russian auspices in the capital, Moscow.

Peter Stano added that the key to resolving the conflict in Syria is a comprehensive political transition led by the Syrians, indicating that the possibility of supporting the steadfastness of the people and society in Syria is a strategic goal for us.

He pointed out that ending the war through a real political transition in line with UN Resolution 2254 is one of our goals.

Moscow talks
On Wednesday, in the Russian capital, Moscow, the Turkish Minister of Defense and intelligence officials met with the Minister of Defense, the Chief of Staff, and the head of the General Intelligence of the Syrian regime, in the presence of the Russian Defense Minister.

The Turkish Minister of Defense, Hulusi Akar, confirmed that the discussion centered on the political solution in Syria, according to UN Resolution 2254, in addition to facilitating the return of refugees. The Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu, described the meeting as “useful,” considering that “communication with the Syrian regime is important.” to achieve lasting peace and stability.

"The next stage in the road map is to hold a meeting at the level of the foreign ministers of the two countries," the Anadolu Agency quoted Mevlut Cavusoglu as saying, explaining that there is no specific timetable for a meeting in this regard.

The Turkish Foreign Minister described those who objected to Turkey's steps toward the Syrian regime as "very few groups that moved for their own interests," considering that the representatives of the Syrian opposition "did not show any reaction to Ankara's steps."
