The White House confirmed that the United States will continue to impose heavy costs on those responsible for violence in Iran.
On Wednesday, the White House spokesman told Al-Arabiya/Al-Hadath that the administration of President Joe Biden rejects all forms of violence against protesters in Iran.
He also stressed that the continued killing of protesters in Iran is appalling, and we will hold the perpetrators of violence accountable.
Death toll from protests in Iran rises
This comes, while the death toll from Iran's protests rose with the continuation of demonstrations in the country for the second month in a row. The human rights organization "Hengao" announced that in the past five days, 16 demonstrators were killed by security forces in Kurdish cities located in western and northwestern Iran.
And the Iranian news agency for human rights (Harana), reported that the death toll had risen to 287 protesters, including at least 46 children.
While about 14,161 protesters were arrested, including 300 university students, according to "Harana" statistics.
Mahsa's blood fired the spark
It is noteworthy that those protests erupted on September 16, the day of the death of the 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, three days after she was arrested in Tehran by the so-called “morality police” on charges of “wearing inappropriate clothes” and violating the strict women’s dress code. imposed in the country since the beginning of the eighties.
Her death sparked outrage in the country over several issues, including restrictions on personal freedoms and strict rules regarding women's dress, as well as the living and economic crisis experienced by Iranians, not to mention the strict rules imposed by the regime and its political structure in general.
