ARK News... Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi discussed with UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen's efforts to reach a political solution in Syria.

This came during a meeting in Amman between Safadi and Pedersen as part of an unspecified official visit the latter is conducting to the kingdom, according to a statement on Friday by the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement said that Safadi put Pedersen in a picture of the details of the "Jordanian proposal," which stresses the need for a collective Arab role in efforts to resolve the Syrian issue and address all its consequences, in a manner that guarantees Syria's security and stability and the security of the region and confronts all the humanitarian, political and security challenges that cause the economic crisis.

The statement stated that Pedersen briefed the Jordanian minister on developments related to efforts to resolve the issue in the context of the track led by the United Nations, and the results of the talks he held in Syria.

During the meeting, Safadi affirmed Jordan's support for the efforts of the UN envoy to reach a political solution in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254 and in accordance with the principle of "step for step."

Resolution 2254 calls on all parties to stop launching attacks against civilian targets, and asks the United Nations to bring the two parties together to enter into formal negotiations and hold elections under the supervision of the United Nations, with the aim of bringing about a political transition.
