Oct 21 2022

ARK News..., a Kurdish activist from the city of Kobani in Syrian Kurdistan and residing in Algeria, on October 20, 2022, said that the Algerian authorities imprison twenty people and there are fears that they will be handed over to the Syrian regime.

Shiyar Kobani said during his participation in the ARK Newsletter: Twenty-five people, twenty of them from the Kurds of the city of Kobani, and the others from the Syrian city of Daraa were arrested by the Algerian authorities, while they were trying to cross illegally to a European country.

The Kurdish activist added that the Kurdish youths were arrested on October 15, and there are fears that they will be handed over to the Syrian regime. Hence, they went on a hunger strike in refusal to hand them over to the Syrian government or transfer them to another country.

The Kurdish activist called on the concerned authorities to intervene to stop handing over the young men to the Syrian regime or transferring them to another country.
