Nechirvan Barzani and the French ambassador discuss the bilateral desire to strengthen relations between the two parties

The President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, on Sunday, October 9, 2022, discussed with the French Ambassador to Iraq Eric Chevalier, the latest developments in the political process in Iraq, France's relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, the internal conditions of the Kurdistan Region, the issue of postponing the elections and the situation in the region in general.

According to a statement by the Presidency of the Region, the two sides stressed the necessity and importance of political and security stability in Iraq to ensure the stability of the entire region and stressed the importance of joint action between the political parties and the components of Iraq to overcome the difficulties and challenges of the stage, which requires resorting to constructive dialogue and mutual understanding between them.

The two sides also stressed that the Iraqis deserve a better life and future and that their problems can be resolved and difficulties overcome with the help of friends and the international community. In this context, the efforts of President Macron and France to assist and urge the Iraqi parties to reach understanding and agreement to solve problems were highlighted.

In other axes of the meeting, which was attended by the French Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, they discussed Erbil-Baghdad relations and the importance of continuing dialogue between them to solve problems, the conditions of Shingal (Sinjar), the conditions of the Yezidi Kurds, and the bilateral desire to strengthen France’s relations with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and other issues that enjoy the mutual interest of both sides.
