ARK News… Despite the rescue operations of hundreds of migrants and asylum seekers heading to southern Europe, there have been many incidents of the sinking of the boats carrying them. And the latest news is that the bodies of six Syrians were found on a boat that arrived in Sicily, Italy, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that the bodies of six Syrian refugees, including three children, were found on a boat that arrived, on Monday, 12 September 2022, in the port of Pozzallo in Sicily.

"They died of thirst, hunger, and severe burns. This is unacceptable... Enhancing rescue efforts at sea is the only way to prevent these tragedies," Chiara Cardoletti, UNHCR representative in Italy wrote on Twitter.

The UNHCR said in a statement that the dead were among a group of 26 people who had been on the boat for days. She added that two of the children who died were one or two years old, while the third was 12 years old. The bodies of a mother and grandmother were also recovered.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, said another woman and her daughter were flown from the boat to a hospital on the nearby island of Malta on Sunday.
