Schulz calls for a joint air defense system in Europe

ARK News… German Chancellor Olaf Schulz announced his intention to create a new air defense system with European neighbors.

Schulz on Monday said in a speech at Karlova University in the Czech capital Prague that the creation of a common system "would be a security gain for the whole of Europe."

Such a system would be cheaper and more efficient than national solutions, Schulz added.

Schulz said that in the coming years, Germany intends to invest significantly in strengthening its air defense system and organizing it in such a way that its European neighbors can also participate, in particular the Netherlands, Poland, the Baltic states, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Scandinavia.

Schulz added that Europe must "make up for what it has missed" on issues of protection against threats from the air and space.

The German chancellor also said he wanted his country to take a "special responsibility" to help Ukraine strengthen its artillery and air defense systems, vowing that Berlin would continue to support it "as necessary".
