Putin discusses by phone with his Israeli counterpart issues of historical heritage and areas of bilateral cooperation

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday said in a press statement: "A number of issues of bilateral cooperation between the two sides were discussed, including in the humanitarian field, taking into account the rich historical heritage of Russian-Israeli relations. They talked about the decisive contribution of the Red Army in the victory over Nazism and the rescue of the Jewish people from extermination during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), as well as the positive role of the Jews in the social and cultural life of Russia.

In turn, the Israeli President's office said that President Isaac Herzog spoke by phone, on Tuesday, with Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was initiated by President Herzog at the request of Prime Minister Yair Lapid and in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The two presidents discussed bilateral Israeli-Russian relations, including the challenges faced by the Jewish people in the Diaspora. In this context, President Herzog spoke about the activities of the Jewish Agency in Russia," the statement said.

According to the statement, the two presidents emphasized the important areas of cooperation between Israel and Russia and agreed to maintain contact. President Putin also affirmed his personal commitment to commemorating the Holocaust and combating anti-Semitism.
