NATO leaders discuss the formation of four new alliance battle groups in the east
ARK News... NATO leaders discussed during a summit in Brussels, on Thursday, the modernization of the deterrence and defense system, and the first step in this direction was the formation of four new battle groups in the eastern part of the alliance.
"Leaders discussed the need to renew our deterrence and defense forces in the long term, and the first step on this path is the creation of four new battle groups in the eastern part of the alliance, in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters.
Stoltenberg noted that the increased presence would require allies to invest more in defense, adding: "We must do more, but we must also invest more... I hope the leaders agree to accelerate increased investment."
Speaking about the timing of the presence of the new forces of the coalition, especially in Romania, the NATO Secretary-General stressed that they "will remain there as long as necessary."
On the eve of the summit, Stoltenberg had said that he expected the leaders "to agree to strengthen NATO's presence on the eastern side by land, air, and sea," according to him, "taking into account the groups in the Baltic states and Poland, we will have a total of eight tactical groups on the eastern side."
