ARK News… After holding a "stormy" open session at the United Nations Security Council, during which the American and Russian sides exchanged a number of accusations regarding the Ukrainian crisis and its repercussions, Moscow said that it "will not back down in the face of threats of US sanctions."

The Russian embassy in Washington said in a statement via its Facebook account, on Tuesday, that "Washington is the one who is inflaming tensions, not Moscow. We will not back down and listen attentively to threats of US sanctions," stressing that the United States "encouraged the radical nationalist coup in Kiev, which resulted in a threat to the people of Crimea.

The Russian embassy noted that Washington "provides the Ukrainian authorities with modern offensive weapons," and Russian diplomats accused the United States of "violating the principle of indivisibility of security, and militarily approached the Russian border," RIA Novosti reported on Tuesday.

The statement affirmed "Russia's sovereign right to transfer its armed forces to its territory," stressing that this "does not threaten anyone." This comes ahead of an upcoming call between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and American Anthony Blinken.

US officials announced, earlier, on Monday, that the United States had received from Russia a written message containing the Kremlin's remarks on US proposals regarding the crisis in Ukraine.
