UK Consul General: PKK Should Not be Present in Kurdistan Region
ARK News… UK Consul General in Erbil James Thornton has argued that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) should no longer be present in the Kurdistan Region.
The UK diplomat's comments came after at least one Kurdish fighter was martyred as a result of an armed attack carried out by the PKK guerillas on a Peshmerga checkpoint outside of Duhok province on Sunday night.
"My condolences to the family of Lt Jahid Abdulrahman Amin of the Peshmerga, killed by the PKK," Thornton wrote on Twitter.
"The PKK is a terrorist organization that should not be present in the KRI," he added.
Sunday's clashes erupted after a PKK vehicle passed through a Peshmerga checkpoint without stopping, after which the PKK fighters began shooting, leaving First Lieutenant Jahid Abdulrahman martyred, according to the information BasNews has learned.
