ARK News.. The European Parliament has approved nearly 600 million euros of humanitarian aid to support Syrian refugees in neighboring countries.

Turkey received the largest share of that money, as European Parliament deputies agreed to provide 485 million euros to it, to ensure the continuation of urgent humanitarian aid to the refugees.

This money comes, along with the 6 billion euros for refugees promised by the European Union to Turkey, as part of a 2016 agreement to limit the flow of migrants to the bloc countries, the majority of them in Turkey, which hosts 3.6 million Syrian refugees.

European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Linares, said that the European Union will support refugees in Turkey as long as the humanitarian needs persist. This new funding reveals our deep concern for the most vulnerable, especially now that the new Corona virus has exacerbated their already deteriorating situation. ”

At the same session, the European Union Parliament also approved a support plan for refugees and host communities in Jordan and Lebanon in the amount of 100 million euros.

On June 24, the European Union's Budget Committee put forward a proposal to provide 485 million euros to support Syrian refugees in Turkey, in addition to 100 million euros for health and education projects for asylum seekers in Jordan and Lebanon.

The committee announced at the time that the funds allocated to Turkey would support the "Red Crescent cards" that are distributed to asylum seekers in Turkey, within the framework of the "Help in Social Harmony" program implemented by the Turkish Red Crescent Society and the International Food Program for asylum seekers in Turkey.
