Apr 23 2020

ARK News.. The Council of Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate , on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, issued a statement on the Kurdish Journalism Day, in which it confirmed: “The state of the press in Syria, and in Syrian Kurdistan is still bad, as Syria is still at the forefront of countries in suppressing the press and journalists.” It also sent a request to the PYD by providing full protection to the Kurdish journalists, without distinction, it is necessary to know the fate of Farhad Hamo, who is being arrested by ISIS.

The statement said as the ARK Media Foundation received a copy:

"The Kurdish press is in the face of humanitarian catastrophes, every year and on this day of April 22, Kurdish journalists celebrate a precious memory for all of their hearts, and our celebration today is one hundred and twenty two years since the publication of the first Kurdish newspaper in the name of" Kurdistan "in the four parts of Kurdistan" .

The Syndicate added: "The Syrian Kurdistan Syndicate was celebrating in the past years with more events and activities in commemoration of the issuance of the first Kurdish newspaper in the name of" Kurdistan "by the founder of the Kurdish press Prince Miqdad Midhat Badirkhan, who immortalized his name in letters of light in the conscience of his Kurdish people, and forever due to the harsh and difficult circumstances that faced him. But this year the world is busy with the beginning of this year with a major pandemic that invaded the world in record time, which is the Corona pandemic that halted all life and community activities, and the precautionary measures around the world are still continuing until the drug is found against the virus.

The statement noted: "Kurdish female and male journalists have joined their colleagues worldwide in standing with the medical family in the front row, risking their lives to persuade people to keep their homes, and explaining the dangers of this epidemic. Kurdish journalists have demonstrated in most of the visual, print, audio and social media outlets that they trust their institutions and people, and defied their circumstances.

The statement added: "We celebrate today, and the state of the press in Syria, and in Kurdistan, is still bad. Syria is still at the forefront of countries in suppressing the press and journalists, before and after 2011 more severely, and so far dozens of journalists have lost their lives, many were subjected to intimidation, exile, arrest and murder, and the situation is not ideal in the areas of self-administration, as it still deals with journalists who are not clapped with the eye of an adversary, and manages various means to limit their work.

The statement directed a request to the PYD management: "We demand the authorities of the self-administration to provide full protection to the Kurdish journalists without discrimination. We also renew our request to them to know the fate of fellow Farhad Hamo, a member of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate in Syria, his news has been cut off since he was kidnapped on 15-12-2014 by the terrorist organization of ISIS, and so far. "

The statement concluded: "As every year, as we celebrate the yearly Kurdish press, we salute the spirit of the late deceased Jiwan Mirani, the first president of the Syrian Kurdistan Journalists, and because of the current conditions, we postpone the announcement of the winner of the Jiwan Mirani award until the general conditions improve. And every year, all Kurdish male and female journalists have a thousand good.

Let the Kurdish press face the humanitarian catastrophes.
