An earthquake strikes areas in western Syria

ARK News: Local sources reported that an earthquake struck areas in Syria yesterday night, as a number of residents of Syrian cities felt it in the west of the country.

The source added that people in the areas along the coastal strip felt the tremor, especially those living in the area between Jableh and Lattakia.

The residents of Hama, Aleppo and Tartous also felt it.

The Syrian National Seismic Center confirmed that it had detected a moderate earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale off the Syrian coast, 65 km from the city of Latakia.

The stations of the National Seismic Monitoring Network recorded a 2.5-degree aftershock on the Richter scale near the Syrian coast, 48 km from Latakia.

There were no reports of casualties or material damage.
