WHO warns smokers

Apr 01 2020

ARK News.. The World Health Organization, yesterday, issued a new warning to smokers in light of the outbreak of the Coronavirus, which has killed more than 38 thousand people in the world so far.

The organization said in a post on its account on the "Facebook" site, that smoking of all kinds, whether it is cigarettes or shisha, increases the chances of a smoker being infected with the Coronavirus and transmitting the infection to others.

The organization stated that placing a hand on the mouth during smoking could lead to the transmission of the virus inside the body, noting that the exchange of cigarettes could also transmit the disease among smokers.

The World Health Organization confirmed that smoking weakens the respiratory system, which enhances the chances of infection with the Coronavirus, especially as the disease specifically attacks the lungs.

The international organization called on smokers to stop smoking immediately in light of the spread of the epidemic, in order to maintain their health and the health of the people around them, and said, "This is the time to get rid of this habit."

The World Health Organization does not stop throughout the year to recall smoking cessation, because of its harmful health effects on the lungs, and the organization has intensified its campaign in this regard with the spread of the Coronavirus in various countries of the world.

The organization indicated in its statistics last May that tobacco kills almost half of its users, as it kills more than 8 million people annually, including more than 7 million who directly use it, and about 1.2 million "passive smokers" who are exposed to second-hand smoke.
