Temperatures below zero ... Snow and frost cut roads in the Kurdistan Region

Feb 10 2020

ARK News: The heavy snowfall in the Kurdistan Region during the past 24 hours has paralyzed transportation on many main and secondary roads that link the regions and governorates of the region to each other.

It was a very cold polar wave, which began to expose Kurdistan and Iraq since the day before yesterday, after the country was affected by an air depression coming from northeastern Europe, accompanied by a very cold and relatively dry air mass.

The snowfall and the temperature drop below zero and the forming frost led to the closure of the main road linking the capital to Erbil and Duhok Governorate through the Bahidri area, where many of the vehicle drivers were forced to return from where they came because the road is dangerous due to the frost and accumulated snow.

And simultaneously snow removal teams are trying to open the road again.

Low temperatures and heavy snow created layers of frost that made it difficult for cars to reach the border port especially at Haji Umran border.
