ARK News: Syria, Yemen, Libya and Sudan ranked among the list of ten most corrupt countries in the world, according to the annual report of indicators of corruption perceptions issued by Transparency International Organization.

The report monitored Syria's decline by thirteen points, compared to 2012, and Yemen retreated eight points during the same period, while the UAE was the least corrupt among the Arab countries, followed by Qatar with a difference of nine points.

The index depends on the evaluation of countries according to a scale of one hundred points, so that corruption decreases as the number of points obtained by the state increases, and the index included 180 countries, only a third of which received more than fifty points.

The countries were divided into six regions, namely the Americas, Western Europe, the European Union, the African Sahara, the Middle East and North Africa, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and East Asia and the Pacific.

Western Europe and the European Union were the least corrupt, with Denmark ranked first, then New Zealand, then Finland, Singapore, and Sweden.

In total, the report revealed that 22 countries have made progress in fighting corruption, led by Greece, Guyana and Estonia, while 21 countries have declined, including Canada, Nicaragua and Australia.
