Pederson reveals the possible date for the meeting of the Syrian Constitutional Committee
ARK News: The UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pederson, confirmed today, Wednesday, 11 December 2019, that he is continuing consultations with representatives of the Syrian regime and the Syrian opposition in the Syrian Constitutional Committee to set a date for the new meeting of the committee.
Pederson told Interfax agency on the sidelines of the 14th round of "Astana talks" on Syria in the Kazakh capital, Nur Sultan: "I am currently looking at the topic of the meeting of the Constitutional Committee with each of its chairmen on the regime and the opposition. We have not reached a consensus (on the convening of the mini committee) yet, and I am continuing to work on that, hoping that they will come up with ideas that allow for a common understanding."
He added: "When we achieve this, we will proceed to agree on the date of the next meeting, and it will be in January."
The first meeting of the mini-constitutional committee at the end of last month in Geneva had failed due to the lack of agreement between the regime and the opposition on the agenda, according to Pederson.
