ARK News: Kurdish prominent leader and the president of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, said that the war against terrorism must continue after the killing of Islamic State (IS) top leader Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi.

Barzani, who previously served as the president of the Kurdistan Region during the hard times of the war on the battlefield against IS, said that the killing of the jihadist group’s top leader was significant that could cause a huge blow to the IS.

“The killing of this murderer, Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi, will have a huge impact on weakening the terrorists of the Islamic State,” he said in a press release, also posted on his official Twitter.

However, he noted, the international community should continue its efforts to eradicate terrorism even after the killing of al-Baghdadi.

“It is imperative for everyone to be mindful of the fact that this is not the end of the IS and that the war against terrorism must continue,” the Kurdish leader added.

Earlier the day, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the US Special Forces had killed al-Baghdadi in a “dangerous” operation in Syria’s Idlib.

The operation, according to senior US officials and Syrian Kurdish commanders, was in cooperation with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces.
