UN Secretary-General "welcomes all efforts aimed at calm" in Syria
ARK News: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Wednesday that he welcomed the Russian-Turkish agreement on a settlement of the situation in northeastern Syria.
Deputy Secretary-General Farhan Haq said in a press statement that Guterres welcomed "all efforts aimed at reducing the escalation in northern Syria and protecting civilians."
Haq continued that the UN Secretary-General "recognizes that there is still a long way to go to an effective solution to the crisis in Syria."
The UN official said that “the return of Syrian refugees to their homes must be conducted voluntarily, safely and in a completely transparent manner." And added: "We are following developments in the region very closely."
