NATO: Turkish military operation against Syrian Kurdistan threatens to escalate further in the region

ARK News: NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg announced that the Turkish military operation against Syrian Kurdistan threatens to escalate further in the region, pointing out that it is important now not to allow terrorists who have been arrested previously to escape.

Stoltenberg on Monday defended his position on the military operation and said NATO should not lose its unity in fighting IS.

A split in the alliance emerged after its member Turkey launched its offensive in Syria last week, prompting governments of EU member states to threaten sanctions against Ankara. Stoltenberg visited Ankara on Friday.

In response to questions from the delegations of France and Italy about what they described as his conciliatory approach to Turkey, Stoltenberg told a meeting of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in London: "We must not risk the gains we have made against our common enemy ... Turkey is important to NATO ... We are in danger of undermining the unity we need in the fight against ISIS."
