ARK News: The White House has told Turkey that it could face "very effective sanctions" and that the United States would "disrupt the Turkish economy" if Ankara goes further in its incursion against the Kurds in northern Syria.

The US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin confirmed on Friday that the United States could "paralyze" the Turkish economy "if we have to do so" as Ankara continues its attack on northeastern Syria.

"President Donald Trump intends to sign a decree to deter Turkey from continuing its military offensive in northeastern Syria," Mnuchin told in a news conference.

He added that "these are very severe sanctions. We hope we will not have to resort to them, but we can paralyze the Turkish economy if we have to."

European Union governments have threatened to impose sanctions on Turkey for its attack in Syria and angrily refused to warn Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that he would "open the doors" and send 3.6 million refugees to Europe if not supported.
