ARK News: Turkey is preparing to monitor its border with Syria, through a "balloon-driven", to ensure the security of the region and the outposts stationed on the border.
The balloon "Karagöz GAG" was developed by the Turkish Defense Industries Corporation (ASILSAN).
Asilsan offered Balloon, which will come into use in November, at the "Techno vest Istanbul" festival of aviation and space technology, its activities, which was concluded on Sunday.
In a statement to Anatolia, Hande Balci, director of the UAVs project at the Asilsan Foundation, said it took two years to develop the balloon and that it will start its duties at the Syrian border from November.
Balci said that the balloon is 17 meters long, 430 cubic meters in size and capable of flying as high as 500 meters.
The balloon is equipped with huge cameras, capable of scanning an area of 8 square kilometers at once.
"The cameras are able to wrap themselves around 360 degrees and give an alarm if any unusual movement is detected. The balloon and its contents are designed with purely local capabilities," she continued.
She noted that one of the advantages of the balloon, its ability to repair itself and re-work in the event of being targeted by small arms.
Balci also explained that the balloon is capable of performing its tasks in extreme weather conditions.
