International Coalition: We have made good progress in the safe area

ARK News: The international coalition led by Washington announced "good progress" on the establishment of the safe area east of the Euphrates on the border with Turkey, coinciding with the holding of a tripartite summit (Russian - Turkish - Iranian) in Ankara to discuss the Syrian file.

"We are making significant progress in the first phase of the security mechanism's activities," the coalition said in a statement on Sunday.

The statement added that "troops conducted several patrols to detect the sites of fortifications and remove them to allay Turkey's concern." And continued "US and Turkish forces also carried out four overflights."

No details about the size or modus operandi of the safe zone have been released, although Ankara says there will be joint observation posts and patrols.

"We will continue our discussions and close coordination with Turkey to discuss additional details on the activities of the security mechanism and will continue to remove some of the fortifications that concern Turkey," the coalition statement said.

The spokesman for the Turkish presidency Ibrahim Kalin has confirmed that Ankara will not allow the delay in the establishment of the safe area and away from the main objective of the establishment, as happened in Manbij.

For its part, the European Commission stressed last week that the goal of the safe area must be to prevent new armed conflicts in the region.
