Turkey looms to implement an alternative plan in case America does not keep its promises
ARK News: Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Tuesday that his country might resort to a double plan if the United States does not comply with its commitments on the safe area in Syrian Kurdistan.
Turkish media quoted Akar as saying that Turkey was "capable of doing what is necessary about the safe area in eastern Euphrates" at the border.
"We have Plan B and Plan C if the United States does not keep its promises on the safe area, and we are ready to implement them," he said.
"We have not forgotten our experiences regarding US promises in Manbij and Raqqa, so we are closely following the promises made by Washington regarding the safe area," he said.
"We will not accept anything without scrutinizing all the information provided to us."
Turkey and the United States agreed last month to establish a joint operations center to manage a strip of land on the Turkish border.
Damascus says the US-Turkish agreement on a safe zone is a "dangerous escalation" and a "flagrant assault" on Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
