Lavrov: Russia is making efforts to form a constitutional committee in Syria
ARK News: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that Russia and Astana partners are doing their best to form a constitutional committee in Syria.
"We are doing our best to form a constitutional committee in Syria, where only one or two names remain," Lavrov said while addressing students at the Moscow Institute of International Relations.
The Russian foreign minister also pointed out that talk of the Syrian government not creating the conditions for the return of refugees is politicized and biased, and that about 1.5 million refugees have returned to their country since the start of the conflict there.
“ The number of returnees from Lebanon and Jordan is very large, with more than 1,000 people returning every day. About 400,000 people have returned since July 2018, '' Lavrov said. One million refugees, so the talk that the Syrian government is not creating the conditions for it is politicized and biased. "
"In the first place, the difficulties are that most Western countries are not interested enough to create conditions on the ground for the return of refugees and internally displaced persons," he said.
"Despite the artificially created obstacles, we, together with our Astana partners, with Turkey and Iran, are doing all we can to create a constitutional committee that fits all and now has one or two names," Lavrov said.
