After reviewing the security situation .. Sweden changed its policy towards Syrian refugees

ARK News: The Swedish government has abandoned the policy of granting residency rights to all refugees from Syria, following a major change in its assessment of the security situation in this country.

The Swedish Migration Agency issued on Thursday new assessment of the security situation in Syria, which says that citizens who are living in a number of areas are no longer at risk because of their place of residence.

According to a map published by the Agency, this decision covers areas under the regime of Assad, the capital Damascus and its countryside, the provinces of Daraa, Swayda and Quneitra and the largest part of the province of Latakia, in addition to the province of Hasaka.

Tartous is also considered the safest area in Syria.

At the same time, the Swedish government continues to grant residency to all refugees from the governorates of Homs, Hama, Raqqa, Deir al-Zour, Idlib and part of Latakia governorate adjacent to Idlib.

The agency pointed out that this change did not concern the refugees who have already obtained the right to reside in Sweden, but the new refugees who come from Syria, and this decision does not mean at all that the Stockholm government will refuse to receive all refugees coming from safer areas.

The change, however, means the end of the policy under which the Swedish government has granted residency to some 115,000 Syrian refugees since 2013.
