Within 24 hours, more than nine thousand civilians have been displaced from Maarat al-Numan

ARK News: The Syrian Response Coordinators team documented the displacement of more than 9,000 civilians from Maarat al-Numan area in Idlib countryside within 24 hours as a result of aerial and missile shelling carried out by Syrian regime forces and Russia.

The team published a statement through its official page, on Thursday, August 29, saying that the massive movement of displaced from the areas of the southern and eastern Idlib countryside continues, especially from the city of Maarat al-Numan and its environs, due to shelling carried out by regime forces and Russia.

The team documented the displacement of more than 1474 families (9587 people) within 24 hours, most of them still on the main roads and in the open.

The team appealed to local actors in the area to provide shelter centers and open schools and camps urgently and immediately to accommodate displaced people from the southern countryside of Idlib.

Activists reported that Russian warplanes were concentrating their shelling in the vicinity of Maarat al-Numan and the outskirts of Idlib in al-Tamaniha, Ma'arshamsha, al-Tah, and the outskirts of the towns of Kanasafra and al-Bara.

The city of Maarat al-Numan has been hit by Russian airstrikes, killing 14 civilians, including six children and two women, and wounded 34 others, including women and children, as documented by the Syrian Civil Defense.

The towns and cities of the southern countryside of Idlib have been under aerial escalation from Russian and Syrian aircraft for days, and the bombardment intensified yesterday, following a summit between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and discussed the situation in Idlib.

Since Thursday morning, a Russian and Syrian warplanes squadron, consisting of 13 aircraft, began targeting residential neighborhoods in 24 towns and villages in the region, according to military observatories specialized in monitoring air traffic.
