Pedersen presents his report on the humanitarian situation in Syria to the Security Council

ARK News: UN special envoy to Syria, Geir Pederson, confirmed that he will visit the Syrian capital Damascus in the near future to complete negotiations on the formation of the constitutional committee.

Pedersen said that there are procedures that must keep pace with the formation of the Constitutional Commission, explaining that this concerns the issues of prisoners, captives and missing persons.

Pederson during his presenting a report on the humanitarian situation in Syria to the Security Council said that there are obstacles facing millions of Syrian refugees wishing to return home.

He pointed out that Russia and Turkey had provided assistance to the United Nations to support Syria, adding that he would travel to Iran soon to discuss Syrian affairs.

The UN Security Council will hear on Thursday, reports on the humanitarian situation in Syria and provide political mediation by UN envoy Geir Pederson.

Western diplomats reported the start of discussions during this week, among some members of the Security Council on a draft resolution demanding a ceasefire in the Syrian Idlib, at the initiative of Kuwait, Germany, and Belgium.

According to the diplomats, the draft resolution also aims to "stop attacks on medical facilities in this area in northwestern Syria and to call on the warring parties to protect civilians and medical personnel," according to the same sources.
