Merkel: Syria's reconstruction is tied to a possible political process
ARK News: Chancellor Merkel reiterated her call to link reconstruction in Syria with the political process. She stressed that it would not be possible to think of helping Syria in the reconstruction without this process. She also spoke of the presence of progress in efforts to form the Constitution Committee.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she believed there was an opportunity for the political process in Syria, noting that efforts to form a constitutional committee had made progress.
Following talks between leaders of the G7 industrialized nations in the French resort of Biarritz, Merkel said that "such a process can begin soon, thus, preparations have made widespread progress."
Merkel added that the success of such efforts would mean "the possibility to start talking about the political future in Syria for the first time in a coordinated manner," and she stressed that "without this process, it is not possible to think about how to help Syria with reconstruction”.
