A dialogue with Ibrahim Biro about their meeting with the US State Department
ARK News: Ibrahim Bro, a member of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Kurdish National Council in Syria, spoke to ARK about the contents of their meeting at the US State Department on Thursday 22.08.2019, the delegation was headed by Kamiran Hajo, the head of the Committee and Ibrahim Biro, Member of the Committee.
- Which side did you meet in the USA?
- "We met with Mr. Joel Rayburn, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Deputy Special Representative for Syrian Affairs James Jeffrey, and the meeting lasted about one and a half hours."
What did Rayburn say about the safe area?
“They told us that the US-Turkish agreement on the safe area is a military security agreement, which will be implemented in three phases, with a depth of 5-14 km, where the YPG will not remain in that area, as will the withdrawal of heavy weapons to a depth of 20 km, and there will be US-Turkish bases in that area, in addition to Turkish reconnaissance aircraft.
The first stage: From Sari Kaniye to Kobani Hill
The second and third phases, none of them is known before so far, the second stage: From Sari Kaniye to the borders of the Kurdistan region and from Gire Spi to Kobani.”
What was your position on the safe area?
"We told them that there is no reason for the safe area to be a corridor for the return of refugees to their places of origin, but we expressed our fears that Syrian refugees in Turkey would be forced to live in the safe area, but they told us that they agreed with Turkey not to force Syrian refugees to return, but Syrian refugees in Turkey who are already residents of that region, the freedom to return to their homes or not.
