The Security Council cancels its session on Syria because of Pederson

ARK News: The UN Security Council canceled its monthly regular session on the planned Syrian settlement, yesterday, August 19, due to the health situation of the UN special envoy to Syria, Geir Pederson.

The “Tass” agency quoted, on Saturday, from a source in the UN organization as saying: “There will be no session on Monday”.

The UN envoy's office announced in July that Pedersen had suffered an eye injury and was receiving treatment, which limited his activity and prevented him from attending a Security Council meeting and other events.

The source stressed that the same reason led to the cancellation of the Security Council meeting in July as well. However, the Security Council will hold a high-level meeting on the situation in the Middle East, with the participation of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Tuesday (August 20th).
