Barzani: A Kurd Shall Not Shed Fellow Kurd’s Blood

ARK News: Kurdish prominent leader and the president of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, made it clear that no disputes or political conflict should lead to a war between the Kurdish factions.

Barzani, who previously served as the president of Kurdistan Region, and continues to play a pivotal role in the regional politics, made the remarks during a visit to Balakayati area near the Iranian border in Erbil province.

He highlighted the role of the people in the area during decades of the Kurdish struggle for freedom.

Balakayati area shares borders with Iran and Turkey, as the result of which it suffers from Tehran and Ankara’s cross-border bombardments and airstrikes as both Iranian Kurdish opposition parties and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have set up positions in the border areas.

Barzani emphasized that the presence of these opposition groups attracts constant Turkish and Iranian bombardments and airstrikes and that the situation should be resolved for the best interests of the people of Balakayati.

“We’re working on it. A solution should ensure that Kurdish blood is not shed at the hands of fellow Kurds. But the situation of the Kurdistan Region should be considered. The Kurdistan Region is the only place that has become a hope for its people (Kurds). If this hope ends, everything will end”, Barzani said.
