ARK News: A Syrian Kurdish source informed on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, the content of the US-Turkish “agreement” on the establishment of a safe area in the eastern Euphrates.

The source, who declined to be identified, told BasNews: "The safe area extends from the Euphrates River in the west to the borders of the Kurdistan Region in the east and a depth of five kilometers to the Syrian interior."

He added that “the PYD will withdraw from the region according to the extent of the weapons it possesses”, pointing out that “weapons with a range of 15 km will be to a depth of 15 km with militants, weapons with a range of 20 km and so on, to allay Turkish security concerns”, according to him.

The source pointed out that “Turkey will be part of the center of operations in this region to be established alongside the countries of the international coalition.”

The source stressed that “what is meant that the safe area will become a corridor for peace and not the settlement of Syrian refugees without these areas in that region», noting that “what is meant that the refugees will pass from this region safely and will open the border crossings with the east of the Euphrates”.

The source pointed out that “the agreement is the subject of popular satisfaction in the east of the Euphrates, where citizens are looking for stability first and foremost”.

In its turn, the US Embassy in Turkey announced that negotiators from both Washington and Ankara had agreed to establish an operations center in Turkey to coordinate and manage efforts to establish a safe area in northern Syria.

According to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Ankara on Wednesday that “from August 5 to 7, 2019, both US and Turkish military delegations held meetings at the headquarters of the Turkish Defense Ministry to discuss plans to coordinate efforts to establish a safe area in northern Syria.”

The statement added that “the US and Turkish military agreed to the rapid implementation of the initial measures to address the security concerns of Turkey, in addition to the establishment of a joint operations center in Turkey as soon as possible to coordinate and manage the establishment of the safe zone”.

The two sides also agreed to make the safe area a "corridor for peace" and make every effort to enable Syrian refugees to return to their country, according to the statement.

The Anatolia news agency reported that US and Turkish joint forces will be in charge of managing the safe area with a width of 30-40 km that will be established along the border with Syria.
