Kurdistan Presidency Comments on Removal of Kurdistan Flag

ARK News: Kurdistan Region Presidency has released an official statement with regards to an Iraqi military officer who recently demanded a Kurdish Anfal survivor to remove a Kurdistan flag from his shoulder in Iraq’s southern province of Muthanna.

The statement came after a video went viral on social media, showing an Iraqi officer stopping a Kurdish man with a Kurdistan flag while attending the process of exhumation of a mass grave for Kurdish victims of Saddam Hussein’s Anfal Campaign.

Following the incident, Muthanna governor apologized to the people of Kurdistan and ensured that the necessary measures would be taken against the officer, a reaction that was welcomed by Kurdistan Region Presidency.

He added that “we reiterated that such actions show lack of understanding and respect towards the Iraqi Constitution, and it is rather an individual case that should not lead to illegal backlashes anywhere”.

He also added that “we need to embrace tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and we are required to honor the Constitution and the rights of all components,” the statement concluded.
