Over 3 Million Displaced Syrians Return Home
ARK News,, The International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that nearly two million internally displaced persons have returned to their areas in Syria since December 2024, while population movements inside the country remain volatile and closely tied to security developments.
According to the IOM’s “Displacement Tracking” report for February 2026, about 1.99 million internally displaced Syrians have returned to their home areas since the fall of the former regime. In addition, more than 1.14 million people have returned from abroad during the same period.
Together, these returns represent approximately 11% of Syria’s total population.
The report also noted that the total number of internally displaced persons in Syria remains high, estimated at around 5.84 million since 2011, while the country’s current population stands at about 27.36 million.
