US Plans to Reopen Embassy in Damascus

Feb 22 2026

ARK News.. Media sources have reported that the United States intends to move forward with plans to reopen its embassy in Damascus, more than a decade after it was closed in 2012.

According to Associated Press, the White House notified Congress on the tenth of this month of the State Department’s intention to adopt a gradual approach toward resuming operations at the embassy. The report indicated that implementation procedures are expected to begin within 15 days, though no specific timeline has been set for the permanent return of US diplomatic staff to Damascus.

The report added that the US administration has been considering reopening the embassy since last year, particularly shortly after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime in December 2024.
