Barrack: Ceasefire Agreement Paves the Way for Renewed Dialogue and Cooperation Toward a Unified Syria

Jan 19 2026

ARK News.. US Special Envoy for Syria Thomas Barrack praised the “constructive efforts” that led to the ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026.

In a post on X, Barrack said the ceasefire reached today paves the way for renewed dialogue and cooperation toward a unified Syria.

He described the agreement and the ceasefire as a pivotal turning point, noting that Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has affirmed that Kurds are an inseparable part of Syria.

Barrack added that the United States looks forward to the smooth integration of the SDF as the newest member of the international coalition, as joint efforts continue in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

“The hard work now begins to finalize the details of a comprehensive integration agreement,” the US envoy said, stressing that Washington stands firmly behind this process at every stage, while safeguarding its vital national security interests in defeating ISIS remnants and advancing President Trump’s ambitious vision for peace in the Middle East.

He further noted that the United States is particularly encouraged by the continued efforts to confront ISIS threats, which he said would facilitate the long-term and full integration of Kurds into a unified and inclusive Syria that protects the interests and rights of all its citizens, while reinforcing shared goals of reconciliation and national unity by aligning distinct interests into a single, coherent path forward.
