President Barzani to Meet Thomas Barrack to Discuss Latest Political and Military Developments in Syria

ARK News.. President Masoud Barzani is set to hold talks with Thomas Barrack, the US President’s Special Envoy to Syria, who arrived in Erbil on Saturday, January 17, 2026, to discuss a number of sensitive issues.

According to Kurdistan Region sources, the meeting will focus primarily on the “March 10 Agreement” concluded between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the relevant parties, as well as a review of the latest political and military developments in Syria and the wider region.

The visit and the anticipated meeting follow up on a phone conversation held on Friday evening, January 9, 2026, between President Barzani and Tom Barrack, during which both sides exchanged views on the Syrian political landscape and stressed the importance of dialogue and close coordination as the only viable path to resolving outstanding crises.

The two sides also emphasized the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions between Kurdish forces and the Syrian government, work toward stabilizing conditions in affected areas, and take concrete steps to strengthen security and stability, while preventing further deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation in the country.
