Syrian Parliamentary Elections Committee Issues Executive Regulations for Electoral Process

Oct 02 2025

ARK News.. The Syrian Supreme Committee for Parliamentary Elections has issued the executive regulations governing the electoral process and specified the locations of polling stations across the country’s electoral districts.

In a statement released on its official Telegram channel, the committee confirmed that candidates have the right to withdraw their candidacy at any time, provided they submit an official request to their respective sub-electoral committee. Any votes cast for the candidate after the withdrawal request will not be counted.

The committee also outlined restrictions on membership in the electoral body, ruling out eligibility for:

Judges who are still in active service.

Any two individuals who share a direct family relationship, including:

Spouses

Siblings

Parents and children

The regulations further stipulate that membership is automatically revoked if a forged academic credential (secondary or university degree) is discovered at any stage of the election process—even after results are announced. In such cases, the winning candidate found guilty of forgery will lose their membership, and legal accountability will follow for falsification and use of fraudulent documents.

Voters are required to present valid identification (national ID card, passport, or an officially certified civil status extract) when casting their ballots. Candidates seeking to appoint an assistant representative must submit the representative’s name and official identification to the head of the subcommittee at least 24 hours before election day; otherwise, the request will be void.

The committee also emphasized that mobile phones or any devices capable of photographing ballots are strictly prohibited inside the secret voting booth.
