The Supreme Committee for the People’s Assembly Elections in Syria has reaffirmed its commitment to barring individuals with proven ties to the former regime of Bashar al-Assad from participating in the upcoming electoral process.

In a statement issued on Thursday, September 20, 2025, Nawwar Najmeh, the committee’s official spokesperson, emphasized that appeals subcommittees are actively reviewing cases and excluding any candidate found to have supported the ousted regime.

“The committee is comprehensively monitoring social media platforms and all published documents and evidence indicating that certain members of the electoral body backed the former regime,” Najmeh stated. “However, we strongly urge citizens to formally submit appeals through designated centers, providing concrete documentation to prove such affiliations. Upon validation, these individuals will be immediately disqualified.”

The Supreme Committee announced earlier this week that it had begun accepting appeals from citizens regarding the preliminary lists of electoral body members. This move aims to ensure transparency and integrity in the electoral process by empowering the public to identify and report alleged sympathizers of the former government.

Najmeh further called on Syrian citizens to actively participate in exposing supporters of the deposed regime within electoral bodies by formally submitting appeals with verifiable evidence.
