Iraqi Militias Threaten Residents in Eastern Syria
ARK News.. Syrian media sources reported that Iraqi militias crossed into Syrian territory in an area known as al-Zuwairiya, in eastern Syria, and issued threats to local residents.
According to the local news network Furat Post, the militias remained in the area for several hours, threatening shepherds and civilians with death if they approached the Syrian–Iraqi border.
Following the incident, the Syrian Internal Security Forces and the 86th Brigade were reportedly placed on high alert across the Al-Bukamal desert and along the border — an unprecedented measure since the fall of the former regime.
Meanwhile, a commander in the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces’ (PMF) 7th Brigade claimed that clashes broke out on the border after “armed men” opened fire from inside Syrian territory toward PMF positions. The skirmishes reportedly lasted for about two hours, with no casualties reported among PMF fighters.
