US House of Representatives Approves Extension of Aid to Syria Through 2026

Sep 12 2025

ARK News… The US House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2026, with a vote of 231 in favor and 196 against. The legislation includes key provisions extending US support for Iraq and Syria, while also strengthening oversight of Turkey’s activities in the region.

The bill allocates $212.516 million to the Counter-ISIS Training and Equipment Fund for FY 2026, in addition to $130 million for programs supporting trusted Syrian groups combating ISIS inside Syria, and $15 million for Lebanon for the same purpose.

It also mandates that the US Departments of Defense and State prepare a detailed report on Turkey’s operations in Syria and Iraq, to determine whether the country is aiding terrorist organizations or committing violations that trigger humanitarian crises among civilians.

Last Thursday, the House voted overwhelmingly to repeal prior authorizations for the use of military force related to Iraq, as part of the NDAA, which sets Washington’s military policies.

The House had previously approved the repeal of the 2002 authorization in 2021, while the Senate passed legislation in 2023 repealing both authorizations. Lawmakers say this repeal represents an important legislative step toward rebalancing executive and legislative powers in decisions over war.
