Assad al-Shibani: Syrian-Russian Relations Are Deep and Marked by Friendship and Cooperation

Syrian Foreign Minister Assad al-Shaibani reaffirmed that Syria and Russia are now capable of building a relationship founded on sovereignty and mutual interest.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, al-Shibani stated that Syrian-Russian relations are “deep and have gone through stages of friendship and cooperation, though they lacked balance at certain times.”
Al-Shaibani stressed that any foreign presence in Syria “must aim to help the Syrian people build their future.”
He welcomed cooperation with Russia in the fields of reconstruction, energy, agriculture, and health — “on fair and transparent foundations.”
The Syrian foreign minister added that Damascus is “looking for genuine partners, and for these talks to succeed, there is a new message: Syria and Russia are capable of building relations based on sovereignty, justice, and mutual interest.”
