Jan Egeland: Syria Now an “Easier Place” for Humanitarian Work
ARK News.. Jan Egeland, Secretary-General of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), described Syria as an “easier place” for humanitarian work, while urging the Syrian government to further facilitate permits for aid operations.
Speaking to Syria TV, Egeland said that internally displaced civilians can now return home, but stressed that reconstruction is essential to ensure their resettlement.
“People cannot continue living in tents through the winter; they need proper housing,” he noted.
Egeland also appealed to regional and international donors to seize what he called an “unprecedented opportunity” to support Syria’s recovery, warning that hundreds of thousands of returnees are finding ruins instead of livelihoods in their hometowns.
