Syrian Foreign Ministry: Paris Meetings with SDF No Longer on the Table
ARK News.. A senior Syrian Foreign Ministry official announced the cancellation of the planned Paris meetings between delegations from the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Qutaiba Idlibi, Head of U.S. Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, said in media statements that future discussions will instead be held in Damascus and northeastern Syria. He added that technical committees have already begun practical steps on the ground to discuss details of implementing the March 10 agreement and moving toward its execution phase.
“We will continue holding meetings in Damascus and in northeastern Syria,” Idlibi said. “Today, we already have measures on the ground enabling the technical committees—whether in Damascus, Hasaka, or elsewhere in the northeast—to actively examine the implementation details and initiate practical steps for executing the March 10 agreement.”
Idlibi explained that the framework for integrating the SDF is no different from the process applied to other factions that agreed to merge into the Syrian army, noting that the integration process remains ongoing. The goal, he said, is to channel combat experience according to the army’s needs and the country’s interests, ensuring “one army and one state.”
He stressed that Damascus rejects repeating the “state within a state” model seen in countries such as Lebanon, insisting that stability in Syria can only be achieved through a unified government and a single national army representing all citizens within the state structure.
On the decision to withdraw from the Paris meetings following the Hasaka conference, Idlibi said the gathering was organized in the wrong format, giving a platform to figures tied to the Assad regime and framing it along sectarian or ethnic lines—something Damascus considered a misstep.
He concluded that direct dialogue among Syrians sends a clear message: solutions can be forged internally, and the outcomes will be more effective than any sessions held under international sponsorship.
