European Union Urges Syria to Implement Recommendations of International Commission on Syrian Coastal Incidents

Syrian media sources reported that the European Union has urged the Syrian government to implement the recommendations outlined in the report by the International Commission of Inquiry regarding the March incidents along the Syrian coast, particularly emphasizing the need to hold those responsible for violations accountable.

According to the sources, Anita Hipper, the EU’s Chief Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, welcomed the publication of the Commission’s report, praising the “diligent work” undertaken to document “serious violations” of international human rights and humanitarian law.

The sources claimed that Hipper commended the Syrian government for granting the Commission access to information sources and facilitating the investigation, underscoring the importance of continued cooperation between the UN Commission and the independent national inquiry body tasked with fact-finding on the coastal incidents.

“In light of the report’s findings, the European Union urges the Syrian government to promptly implement the recommendations to ensure all perpetrators are held accountable,” the statement read, stressing the need to bring those responsible for violations of international humanitarian law and human rights to justice, whether during the former regime or afterward.
