Suwayda: Hundreds Rally Under the Banner of “Right to Self-Determination”
ARK News.. Hundreds of people gathered in the center of Suwayda city in southern Syria on Saturday, rallying under the slogan of the “Right to Self-Determination,” according to local media reports.
The outlet Suwayda 24 published video footage of what it described as a “mass demonstration” in Karama Square, where participants raised calls for political and social rights.
The protest comes amid intensifying debates over decentralization. On August 8, the city of Hasaka hosted the “Conference on Unity of Position for the Components of Northeastern Syria,” organized by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The event featured a video address from Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijari, a spiritual leader of the Druze community in Suwayda.
Also participating was Ghazal Ghazal, head of the “Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria,” who called for the establishment of a “civil, secular, pluralistic, and decentralized state” in Syria.
