Preparations Underway for Syrian Summit in Jordan
ARK News.. Al-Quds Al-Arabi reported that U.S. Special Envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack is coordinating with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, several Arab foreign ministers, and the Turkish foreign minister to prepare for a meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, between the Syrian government and community leaders from Suwayda province.
According to two sources — one American and one Syrian — the meeting, expected to take place at the end of next week, enjoys strong international and regional backing aimed at ensuring its success.
Efforts are reportedly underway to persuade Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri to attend, alongside prominent local clan leaders and notable faction commanders. It remains unclear whether invitations will be extended to Suleiman Abdul Baqi or Laith al-Balous.
The sources added that current preparations do not indicate Sheikh al-Hijari’s likely attendance, particularly in the absence of Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani. Official representation is expected to be limited to Suwayda’s Internal Security Chief Ahmad al-Dalati, Daraa’s Internal Security Chief Shahir Imran, and Suwayda Governor Mustafa al-Bakkour.
