Syrian Government Considering Canceling Negotiation Round with SDF in Paris

Aug 09 2025

ARK News.. Regional media outlets reported that the Syrian government is considering canceling the scheduled round of negotiations in Paris with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), citing what it described as a lack of seriousness in implementing the March 10 agreement. The development follows a conference organized by the SDF in al-Hasakah, attended by religious figures from Sweida and Tartus.

According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, a Syrian government source — who preferred to remain anonymous — said the SDF conference in al-Hasakah reflected a lack of genuine intent to negotiate with Damascus. The source described the move as a dangerous escalation that could affect the course of the talks.

The source added that the Syrian government is considering all options, including canceling the Paris meeting, unless the SDF presents a practical proposal for implementing the March 10 agreement signed between Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi. The agreement stipulates the political and military integration of the SDF and the PYD administration into state institutions.

On Friday, the “Unity of Position for the Components of Northeastern Syria” conference was held in the city of al-Hasakah, northeastern Syria, organized by the SDF. It was attended by religious and tribal figures, including Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, one of the Druze spiritual leaders in Sweida, and Ghazal Ghazal, head of the Supreme Alawite Islamic Council in Syria.
